Notes: | A trickster tale from the Choctaw tribe |
One day, Rabbit decided he wanted to try his hand at duck hunting. He had heard tales of the delicious meals that could be made from duck meat, and he was determined to catch some for himself. So, Rabbit set off to find a pond where he could find ducks.
After some searching, Rabbit came upon a tranquil pond surrounded by lush greenery. He spotted a group of ducks swimming peacefully in the water, quacking and preening their feathers in the warm sunlight.
Rabbit knew he would need a plan to catch the ducks, so he put his clever mind to work. He decided to disguise himself as a bush by the edge of the pond, hoping the ducks wouldn't notice him.
As Rabbit waited patiently in his bush disguise, he watched as the ducks continued to swim and play in the water. But no matter how still he remained, the ducks seemed wary of the bush by the pond.
Frustrated by his lack of success, Rabbit decided to try a different approach. He began to sing a beautiful song, hoping to lure the ducks closer to him with his melodious voice.
To Rabbit's delight, the ducks were enchanted by his singing. They swam closer and closer to the edge of the pond, drawn in by the sweet sound of Rabbit's voice.
But just as Rabbit was about to make his move, he let out a loud sneeze, startling the ducks and sending them flying off into the sky. Rabbit's plan had failed once again.
Defeated but not discouraged, Rabbit decided to try his luck another day. He knew that with his quick wit and clever tricks, he would eventually succeed in catching some ducks for his dinner.
And so, Rabbit returned home empty-handed but determined to improve his hunting skills. And though he may not have caught any ducks that day, he had certainly learned a valuable lesson in patience and perseverance.
