Notes: A story from the Pueblo tribes

Long ago, when the world was young and the sky was closer to the earth, there lived a tribe of Native Americans who revered the moon as a sacred entity. They believed that the moon was inhabited by a benevolent spirit known as the Man in the Moon.

According to their legend, the Man in the Moon was a wise and gentle being who watched over the earth and its people. He guided travelers on their journeys, brought light to the darkness of night, and bestowed blessings upon those who honored him.

One day, a young boy from the tribe named Little Bear ventured into the forest alone. As he wandered deeper into the woods, he became lost and afraid. The trees seemed to loom over him like dark giants, and the sounds of the night made him tremble with fear.

Just when Little Bear felt like all hope was lost, he looked up at the sky and saw the familiar face of the moon shining down upon him. In that moment, he felt a sense of peace and comfort wash over him.

With renewed courage, Little Bear followed the moon's gentle glow through the forest until he eventually found his way back to the safety of his village. From that day forward, he never forgot the kindness of the Man in the Moon and the guiding light that had led him home.

The tribe continued to honor the Man in the Moon, offering prayers and offerings to thank him for his protection and guidance. And whenever they looked up at the night sky and saw the moon shining down upon them, they remembered the legend of the Man in the Moon and the power of his eternal watchfulness.
