Jack was a poor boy living in a small cabin in the Appalachian Mountains. One day, his mother sent him to sell their last cow at the market. But on his way, Jack met an old man who offered him a handful of beans in exchange for the cow. The old man claimed they were magical beans that could lead to great riches. Jack, curious and hopeful, agreed and took the beans home.
When his mother saw what he had done, she was furious. "Magic beans? You've been tricked, Jack!" she shouted, throwing the beans out the window. That night, while they slept, the beans grew into an enormous beanstalk that stretched up into the sky.
Jack, always up for adventure, decided to climb the beanstalk. He climbed higher and higher until he reached the clouds, where he found a massive castle. Inside lived a giant with a hoard of gold coins. Jack, ever the trickster, sneaked in and grabbed as many coins as he could carry. But as he turned to leave, the giant roared, "Fee-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman!"
Jack froze, but then noticed a chicken nearby. He threw the bird at the giant, who stumbled back in surprise. Using the distraction, Jack darted out of the castle and scrambled down the beanstalk, carrying the gold back to his mother. From that day on, they never had to worry about being poor again.
