During a terrible drought, all the animals of the savanna were struggling to find food and water. Elephant, who was always hungry, grew desperate. "I'm going to find something to eat, no matter what it takes!" he declared, stomping through the dry grasslands.

Hare, watching from a safe distance, knew that Elephant's hunger would make him reckless. "I'd better be careful," Hare thought. "Elephant might just try to eat me next!"

Hare quickly came up with a plan. He dug a deep hole in the ground and covered it with branches and grass, making it look like a solid patch of earth. Then he placed a few juicy leaves on top of the trap and hid nearby.

Soon enough, Elephant came lumbering along, sniffing the air. "What's that delicious smell?" he muttered, his eyes narrowing as he spotted the leaves. Without a second thought, Elephant reached out his trunk and grabbed the leaves, only to find himself tumbling headfirst into the deep pit.

"Help! Help!" Elephant trumpeted, flailing around in the hole. "I'm stuck!"

Hare hopped over to the edge of the pit, peering down at the trapped Elephant. "Well, well, what are you doing down there, Elephant?" he asked innocently.

"Hare, you've got to help me!" Elephant pleaded. "I'll do anything—just get me out of here!"

Hare pretended to think about it. "Hmm… all right, but you have to promise not to try to eat me or any of my friends ever again."

"I promise!" Elephant cried. "Just get me out of this pit!"

Hare grinned. "Very well, then." He gathered some vines and tied them into a strong rope. "Hold on to this, and I'll pull you out."

With Hare's help, Elephant climbed out of the pit, panting and covered in dirt. "Thank you, Hare," Elephant said humbly. "You saved me. I'll never forget your kindness."

Hare nodded. "Just remember, Elephant, it's not always about being the biggest and strongest. Sometimes, a little wisdom goes a long way."

Elephant, grateful and embarrassed by his own foolishness, nodded and promised to respect Hare from that day on. And whenever the drought was mentioned, the animals would tell the story of how clever Hare tricked the mighty Elephant, reminding everyone that size doesn't always determine strength.
