One hot afternoon, Hare wandered down to the river, thirsty and tired. As he bent down to drink, a massive crocodile slid out of the water, his teeth glinting in the sunlight. "Hello, Hare," Crocodile said with a wicked grin. "What brings you to my river today?"
Hare, knowing how dangerous Crocodile could be, quickly thought of a plan. "Oh, I'm just here to help you, Crocodile," Hare said smoothly. "I've noticed your teeth are looking a little dull. You wouldn't want to lose your bite, would you?"
Crocodile paused, then snapped his jaws shut. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about your teeth!" Hare exclaimed, shaking his head dramatically. "All the other crocodiles have sharp, gleaming teeth. But yours? Well… they look a bit dull and worn down. I could help sharpen them for you."
Crocodile's pride was pricked. "Sharpen my teeth? And how would you do that?"
"It's simple!" Hare said, smiling. "Just open your mouth and let me take a closer look. I'll bring you something special to make your teeth the sharpest in the river."
Crocodile, eager to have the sharpest teeth around, opened his jaws wide. Hare peered inside and nodded. "Yes, I see the problem. Now, keep your mouth open and I'll be right back!"
Hare hopped away, leaving Crocodile with his mouth wide open, waiting patiently. Minutes turned into hours, but Hare didn't return. Crocodile's jaws began to ache, but he didn't dare close them, afraid of missing his chance to have the sharpest teeth.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, Crocodile snapped his jaws shut and realized he had been tricked. "That sneaky Hare!" he growled, splashing angrily into the water.
From then on, Crocodile kept his mouth shut whenever Hare was around, knowing that the clever trickster had once again made a fool of him. And Hare, laughing all the way back to his burrow, told the story to all the other animals, who roared with laughter at how he had outsmarted the fearsome Crocodile.
