Props:One or several compasses
Notes:This is an educational skit with a pun ending. The Skitleader should be patient and instructive. Make sure to emphasize keeping compasses away from belt buckles. The punchline is a classic groan-worthy pun.

(The Skitleader hands a compass one at a time to several volunteers, or if he has enough compasses, he provides each volunteer with a compass. He then instructs them to find north, being especially careful to keep the compasses clear of their belt buckles.)

[Skitleader:] Hold your compass like this. Point it north. Be very careful to keep it away from your belt buckle!

(He explains how easy it can be for the compass to point at the metal in the belt rather than at the North Pole.)

(After each successfully finds north or their assigned bearing, he congratulates them and says there is one more important thing you must remember.)

[Skitleader:] Never use a Tates compass.

(When one of the participants asks why, the Skitleader replies by saying:)

[Skitleader:] "You know the old saying, he who has a Tates is lost."

(Freeze. Blackout.)
