| Notes: | The Lost Camper should walk in circles and pass the same landmarks repeatedly. The Scoutmaster should be calm and knowing. This skit teaches about staying put when lost while being funny. |
([Lost Camper] enters, looking around confused, carrying backpack.)
[Lost Camper:] Okay, I just went to get firewood. The camp was right here... or was it over there?
([Lost Camper] walks across stage.)
[Lost Camper:] I recognize that tree! Or do I? All these trees look the same!
([Lost Camper] walks in a circle.)
[Lost Camper:] Wait, I've definitely seen that rock before. Or is it a different rock?
(Continues walking, getting more confused.)
[Lost Camper:] Okay, don't panic. I learned what to do when I'm lost in Scouts. Let me think...
(Pauses, thinking hard.)
[Lost Camper:] Rule number one: Stay calm. I'm calm! Totally calm!
(Takes deep breath.)
[Lost Camper:] Rule number two: Stay put! Don't wander around!
(Pauses.)
[Lost Camper:] Right! I should stay right here!
(Sits down.)
[Lost Camper:] They'll come find me!
(Sits for two seconds, then jumps up.)
[Lost Camper:] But what if they're looking in the wrong place? Maybe I should go find them!
(Starts walking again in circles.)
[Lost Camper:] This definitely looks familiar. Or does it? I can't tell anymore!
([Scoutmaster] enters from opposite side, watching [Lost Camper] walk in circles.)
[Scoutmaster:] (calmly) Looking for something?
[Lost Camper:] (spinning around, relieved) Scoutmaster! Thank goodness! I'm lost! I can't find camp!
[Scoutmaster:] Really? That's interesting.
[Lost Camper:] I've been walking for hours! I've gone miles! I don't know where I am!
[Scoutmaster:] Hours, you say?
[Lost Camper:] Yes! I'm completely lost! Which way is camp?
([Scoutmaster] points directly behind [Lost Camper].)
[Scoutmaster:] It's right there. About 50 feet away.
([Lost Camper] turns around and looks.)
[Lost Camper:] WHAT?! But I've been walking for so long!
[Scoutmaster:] You've been walking in circles. I've been watching you for the last ten minutes. You passed that same tree about six times.
[Lost Camper:] (embarrassed) Oh. So I was never really lost?
[Scoutmaster:] Well, you WERE lost. But you were lost in a 100-foot circle around camp.
[Lost Camper:] (sheepishly) I guess I should have stayed put like we learned in training.
[Scoutmaster:] That would have been a good idea. What's rule number two when you're lost?
[Lost Camper:] (reciting) Stay put. Don't wander around.
[Scoutmaster:] Exactly. And what did you do?
[Lost Camper:] The opposite of that.
[Scoutmaster:] (nodding) Lesson learned?
[Lost Camper:] Lesson learned! Next time I'll stay put!
[Scoutmaster:] Good! Now come on, let's head back to camp.
([Scoutmaster] starts walking offstage. [Lost Camper] follows, then stops.)
[Lost Camper:] Scoutmaster? Which way is camp again?
[Scoutmaster:] (pointing) THAT way!
[Lost Camper:] Right! I knew that!
(Both exit. [Lost Camper] immediately starts walking the wrong direction before [Scoutmaster] grabs them and redirects.)
(Freeze. Blackout.)
