Props: | None required; actors may use vocal sound effects or improvised instruments |
Notes: | Bird, Frog, Tree, and Breeze can hide offstage or in the woods for surprise effect. The Lost Scoutmaster should remain unseen until the final line. Works best with exaggerated sound effects and good comic timing. |
[Storyteller:] You know, I love camping. It's not like being in the city at all.
[Storyteller:] You hear sounds that you can only hear out in the country. For instance-lots of birds.
([Bird:] Chirps cheerfully, sings a bird song.)
[Storyteller:] Ah, isn't that lovely?
[Storyteller:] And the frogs. They have one of those great sounds.
([Frog:] Ribbit... ribbit...)
[Storyteller:] And though there's breeze in the city, it's just not the same as the breeze in the country.
([Breeze:] Whooooosh... light breeze sounds.)
[Storyteller:] Let's face it, there are trees in the city, but how many? The breeze through a forest is so nice.
([Tree:] Swoosh... rustle... rustle...)
[Storyteller:] But the sound I love to hear the most when I go camping...
[Storyteller:] ...is the sound of the Lost Scoutmaster.
([Lost Scoutmaster:] Heavy footfalls. 'Where in the world am I?!')
