C
It went zip when it moved
G7
and pop when it stopped,
C F
And whirrrrrr when it stood still.
C
I never knew just what it was
G7 C
and I guess I never will.
C G7
When I was just a wee little lad,
C G7
full of health and joy,
F C
My father homeward came one night
D G7
and gave to me a toy.
C G7
A wonder to behold it was,
C F
with many colors bright,
C
And the moment I laid eyes on it,
D G7
it became my heart's delight.
C
It went zip when it moved
G7
and pop when it stopped,
C F
And whirrrrrr when it stood still.
C
I never knew just what it was
G7 C
and I guess I never will.
C G7
The first time that I picked it up,
C G7
I had a big surprise,
F
'Cause right on the bottom
C
were two big buttons
D G7
that looked like big green eyes.
C G7
I first pushed one and then the other,
C F
then I twisted its lid,
C
And when I set it down again,
D G7
here is what it did.
C
It went zip when it moved
G7
and pop when it stopped,
C F
And whirrrrrr when it stood still.
C
I never knew just what it was
G7 C
and I guess I never will.
C
It first marched left
G7
and then marched straight,
C G7
then marched under a chair,
F C
And when I looked where it had gone
D G7
it wasn't even there.
C G7
I started to cry but my daddy laughted
C F
'cause he knew that I would find,
C
When I turned around my marvelous toy
D G7
would be chugging on behind.
C
It went zip when it moved
G7
and pop when it stopped,
C F
And whirrrrrr when it stood still.
C
I never knew just what it was
G7 C
and I guess I never will.
C G7
The years have gone by too quickly it seems,
C G7
now I have my own little boy,
F C
And yesterday I gave to him
D G7
my marvelous little toy.
C
His eyes nearly popped
G7
right out of his head
C F
and he gave a squeal of glee,
C
Neither one of us knows just what it is
D G7
but he loves it just like me.
C
It still goes zip when it moves
G7
and pop when it stops,
C F
And whirrrrrr when it stands still.
C
I never knew just what it was
G7 C
and I guess I never will.
