Have you ever scrolled through your phone and come away feeling worse about yourself? Everybody else seems to be on an amazing trip, or getting an award, or having a better time with better friends. And there you are on the couch, feeling like you're falling behind.

That's called the comparison trap, and almost everybody falls into it.

Here's the thing to remember. What you see online is a highlight reel. People post the best moments. The perfect sunset, the winning goal, the great day. They don't post the fight with their brother, the test they bombed, or the day they felt lonely. You're comparing your whole life, the boring parts and the hard parts included, to everybody else's best ten seconds. That's never going to be a fair fight.

It happens in Scouting too. That Scout has more merit badges. That patrol always wins the competitions. That kid never seems to struggle with knots.

So here's a better comparison. Compare yourself to you. Not to that Scout, but to the Scout you were a year ago. Can you do things now that you couldn't then? Are you a little braver, a little kinder, a little more capable? That's the only race that really matters, and you're probably doing better in it than you think.

And when the scrolling starts making you feel small, put the phone down. Go outside. Call a friend. Do something real.

Your life doesn't need to look like anybody else's highlight reel. It just needs to be yours.
