Veterans Day
đź”—
Today, we honor Veterans Day—a day dedicated to the men and women who have served in our nation's armed forces. This tradition began in 1919, originally known as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I. At 11:00 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month, the armistice was signed, ending the fighting. This day became a reminder of peace and sacrifice, and over time, it evolved to honor all veterans who have served in any war or branch of our military.
Veterans Day reminds us of courage and commitment. Each person who has put on a uniform has promised to serve and protect our nation, even if it meant putting themselves in harm's way. They've taught us that the values we hold in Scouting—like honor, loyalty, and bravery—are also values they live by.
Let us remember that freedom isn't free. It's earned by the sacrifices of many who came before us and by those still serving today. As Scouts, we can honor veterans by showing respect, offering a helping hand, and serving our community in our own ways. When we do that, we carry forward the spirit of Veterans Day—not just today, but every day.
