Notes:For the meeting after an Order of the Arrow unit election or call-out, directed at the Scouts who were elected. Pairs with troop-life-oa-not-yet for the Scouts who weren't. Keep the details of OA ceremonies private, as the lodge would want. Part of a Troop Life series - see the other minutes in this category.

Some of you were elected to the Order of the Arrow. Congratulations. That's a real honor.

But think about how it happened. I didn't pick you. The adults didn't pick you. The Scouts in this troop did. The people who camp with you, cook with you, and see how you act when things go wrong looked at you and said, "That one. That's who we want."

That says something about how you've been living the Scout Oath and Law. Your fellow Scouts noticed. They usually do.

Now, here's what I want you to remember. The Order of the Arrow isn't a trophy. It's an honor society built around cheerful service. The whole point is that you were chosen because you already help others, and now you're being asked to do even more of it. For your troop, for your camp, and for Scouting.

So don't come back from your Ordeal acting like you're better than the Scouts who weren't called. Come back more helpful. Come back more willing to do the jobs nobody else wants. The best Arrowmen I've ever known were the first ones to grab a shovel and the last ones to ask for credit.

Your troop trusted you with this. Show them they chose well.
