Notes:A Cub Scout-friendly minute about doing good things without needing recognition.

Cubs, I want to tell you about two kinds of helpers. The first helper does something nice and then runs around telling everyone about it: 'Did you see me pick up that trash? Did you notice I helped set up the chairs? Hey everybody, look what I did!' The second helper picks up the trash, helps set up the chairs, and just goes back to what they were doing. No announcement. No fuss.

Both helpers did a good thing. But the quiet helper did it for the right reason - not for the high-five or the gold star, but because it needed to be done. That's humility. It means you don't need everyone to notice every good thing you do. You do it because it's the right thing, and that's enough.

Here's a secret: people actually notice the quiet helper more. When someone is always bragging, people stop paying attention. But when someone just quietly does the right thing over and over, people think, 'Wow, that person is really special.' This week, try being a quiet helper. Do something kind and don't tell anyone about it. See how that feels. I bet it feels pretty great.
