The Singing Scoutmaster: Last Campfire, The

Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts, your time in this pack is running out. You might have a few meetings left, maybe a campout or two, and then you'll cross over and this chapter closes. That might feel exciting, sad, or a little of both. But here's something I want you to think about: what are you going to do with the time you have left?

Years from now, the Tigers and Wolves in this pack aren't going to remember what awards you earned or what rank you achieved. They're going to remember how you made them feel. They're going to remember whether the big kids were kind or whether they ignored them. They're going to remember whether someone helped them with their pinewood derby car or whether they had to figure it out alone.

You are writing your legacy right now, in these last few meetings. A legacy isn't a trophy on a shelf - it's the story people tell about you after you've gone. And the best legacy an Arrow of Light Scout can leave is a younger Cub who says, 'I want to be just like them when I'm that age.'

So make these last meetings count. Teach a Bear how to do something you've mastered. Sit with the new kid during the opening. Cheer louder than anyone at the campfire. Show every Scout in this pack what it looks like to love Scouting and love your packmates. That's leadership. Not a title, not a position - just a Scout who made things better for everyone around them. That's the kind of last campfire worth remembering.
