It's going to be strange tonight. A real bed. A shower that lasts as long as you want. Nobody blowing a whistle at 6:30 in the morning. Your phone will have about four hundred notifications, and none of them will matter as much as this week did.
Before we split up, I want to leave you with three things.
First: when your family asks, "How was camp?" don't say, "Fine." You just had a whole week of stories. Tell them one. Tell them about the storm, or the hike, or the thing your patrol did that you're never going to live down. They've been waiting all week to hear it.
Second: somebody drove you here, and somebody is driving you home. Somebody paid the camp fee, packed the food, and gave up a week of vacation to sleep in a tent next to you. Before you get out of the car tonight, say thank you. Mean it.
Third: camp isn't over until the gear is. Tents get dried out before they get packed away, or next year's troop opens a bag of mildew. If you've got troop gear, take care of it this week and bring it back ready for the next Scout.
It was a good week. You made it a good week. Go home and get some sleep. You've earned it.
