| Notes: | True courtesy is revealed when you're frustrated, tired, or dealing with difficult people. |
Being courteous to friendly people on a good day takes no effort. The real test comes when you're tired, frustrated, or dealing with someone who's being rude to you. Do you snap back? Do you let your manners slip because "they started it"? Or do you stay courteous regardless?
When someone is rude to you and you respond with courtesy, something interesting happens. You break the cycle. You refuse to let their bad mood become yours. And sometimes - not always, but sometimes - your courtesy reminds them how they want to behave too.
A Scout is courteous even under pressure. Especially under pressure. Because anyone can be polite when it's easy. But maintaining courtesy when it's difficult shows real character. And that kind of character makes you a leader others respect and want to follow.
