Your patrol doesn't need five cooking stoves - one good one that everyone shares works fine. You don't need six different first aid kits - one well-stocked patrol kit serves the whole group. This is thriftiness through cooperation.
When you share resources, everyone benefits. The patrol saves money. Nobody has to carry duplicate equipment. And you learn to take care of shared gear because others are depending on it too.
