Rules Have Reasons

Why do we need to filter our drinking water on campouts? Why do we keep our distance from wildlife? Why do we check in before leaving camp? Sometimes rules can feel like they're just there to make life harder.
But here's the thing: every rule has a story behind it. The water rule exists because someone got sick. The wildlife rule exists because someone got hurt. The check-in rule exists because someone got lost. Rules aren't created to annoy you - they're created to protect you from mistakes others have already made.
A Scout is obedient, but that doesn't mean we obey blindly. It means we're wise enough to recognize that rules usually exist for good reasons, even if we don't immediately see them. When you understand the 'why' behind a rule, obedience stops feeling like restriction and starts feeling like wisdom.
