Props:A Raingutter Regatta boat (optional)
Notes:For the Raingutter Regatta, before the first heat. Pairs well with finishing-with-pride as a closing minute after the races.

Look at these boats. No motors. No batteries. No remote controls. So what makes them go?

You do. Every inch that boat moves down the gutter, it moves because of your breath. That's what makes the Raingutter Regatta different from almost any other race. Nobody can blow your boat for you. Your mom can't. Your den leader can't. It's all you.

Here's something the Scouts who have raced before already know. If you blow as hard as you can all at once, the boat might tip, or spin sideways and get stuck. The boats that make it to the end usually aren't the ones with the biggest puff. They're the ones with a steady breath that keeps going and going.

And if your boat gets stuck halfway, don't stop. Take a breath, aim, and keep blowing. Plenty of races have been won by a boat that was stuck in the middle for a while.

That works for more than sailboats. Homework, learning to ride a bike, earning your next rank: most things in life don't need one giant puff. They need you to keep blowing, steady, all the way to the end.

So, sailors, take your places. Find your wind.
