The Queen and the Flowers

Let me tell you a story from Hawaii-about Queen Liliʻuokalani, the last monarch of the Hawaiian Islands.

In 1895, after an attempted uprising to restore the monarchy, Queen Liliʻuokalani was placed under house arrest in a room at ʻIolani Palace. She was isolated, guarded, and kept from the outside world. She had no access to news or friends, and for months, she lived in silence and uncertainty.

But every day, a young girl from the community would come to the gates of the palace with a small bouquet of flowers. She wasn't just being kind-though that would've been enough. Hidden inside the flowers, wrapped around the stems, was that day's newspaper.

It was her way of helping the Queen stay connected to her people-quietly, faithfully, every day. The guards never noticed. But the Queen did.

She later said it was these small acts of loyalty and kindness that gave her strength.

You don't have to wear a crown or hold a title to lead. Sometimes leadership is found in the quiet things: a kind word, a helping hand, a thoughtful gesture.

Whether you're in a position of power or just one Scout among many, you can make a difference-just like that girl did for her Queen.

Aloha.
