Notes:True obedience includes listening to your inner voice of right and wrong.

Being obedient doesn't mean turning off your brain and blindly following any instruction. Sometimes the most important obedience is to your conscience - that inner voice that tells you what's right and wrong.

If someone in authority asks you to do something that violates the Scout Law, your conscience should speak up. If your friends want you to join in something harmful, your conscience should say no. Obedience to your moral compass sometimes means having the courage to disobey pressure from others.

A Scout is obedient to the principles we've promised to uphold: duty to God, duty to others, and duty to self. When you follow your conscience, you're obeying the highest authority of all - the values that define who you are. And that kind of obedience takes more courage than any other.
