I know what some of you are thinking, because I'd be thinking it too. Who is this, and what's going to change?
Let me start with who I'm not. I'm not (outgoing Scoutmaster's name), and I'm not going to try to be. They gave this troop years of their life, and I'm grateful to be standing on that foundation.
Here's what isn't changing. The Oath and the Law. Campouts. Patrols. A troop that you run, not me.
Some other things might change, and when they do, I'll talk them over with your Patrol Leaders' Council first. You know how this troop works better than I do right now. I'm going to ask a lot of questions. Please answer them honestly, even when the answer is, "That's not how we do it here."
And here's what I promise you. I'll show up. I'll listen. I won't do anything for you that you can do for yourselves. When you try something hard, I'll let you struggle with it, and when you fall short, I'll be there to help you figure out what went wrong.
All I ask in return is a little patience while I learn your names, your traditions, and which patrol really makes the best cobbler.
This is your troop. I'm here to help you run it. Let's get started.
