Miracle on Ice: Belief Beats the Odds

In February 1980, a group of American college hockey players took the ice at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Their opponent? The Soviet Union-widely considered unbeatable, a team of professionals that had dominated world hockey for years.

No one thought the U.S. team had a chance.

But they played with grit, heart, and belief. And when the final horn sounded, the scoreboard read: USA 4, USSR 3.

Sportscaster Al Michaels asked, "Do you believe in miracles?" And in that moment, the world answered: yes.

As Scouts, we may not always be the strongest or the fastest-but with preparation, unity, and belief in each other, we can do amazing things. Just like that team did in 1980.
