Nature doesn't have unlimited capacity to recover from our impact. Dead wood burns once and it's gone. Vegetation trampled by shortcuts takes years to grow back. Water polluted by soap takes a long time to clean itself. Using these resources carelessly today means someone tomorrow will have less.
A Scout is thrifty, and that extends beyond money to include natural resources. We're stewards of the outdoors, not owners.
