Notes:How we treat creatures that can't defend themselves reveals our true character.

Animals can't speak up for themselves. They can't tell you when you're being too rough, too loud, or too careless. A dog might tolerate being teased. A cat might hide when scared. Wildlife might flee from harassment. But their silence doesn't mean they're not affected.

How you treat animals - your pets, wild creatures, even insects - says something about your character. Do you handle them gently? Respect their space? Provide proper care? Or do you see them as objects for your entertainment, things that don't really matter?

A Scout is kind to all living things. That means petting dogs gently, not chasing wildlife, caring properly for pets, and treating even small creatures with respect. Because kindness isn't just about how you treat people who can report your behavior or defend themselves. It's about how you treat beings who are completely at your mercy. That's where true kindness is revealed.
