Hurricane Katrina: Rising After the Storm
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast. Levees broke. Neighborhoods flooded. Entire communities were left underwater. Over 1,800 people lost their lives-and millions more lost homes, jobs, and schools.
But in the aftermath, something powerful happened. Volunteers poured in from around the country. Rescue teams worked tirelessly. Neighbors helped neighbors. Strangers became family.
And yes, Scouts were there-distributing supplies, cleaning up homes, offering comfort where it was needed most.
Storms will come, in weather and in life. What matters is how we respond. Scouting teaches us to be prepared-not just with gear, but with grit, compassion, and the will to serve.
