Notes:Good at a court of honor, an awards night, or after a Scout or patrol wins recognition. Pairs with winning-with-class and the other Humility minutes.

Someday, maybe tonight, your name is going to get called. You'll win an award, earn a rank, get recognized for something you worked really hard for. Everyone will clap. And you should feel proud. You earned it.

But here's something worth thinking about. How you receive an award says more about you than the award does.

Some people win and make it all about themselves. They brag. They show off. They make sure everybody knows how great they are. And even though they won, people walk away liking them a little less.

Other people win and do something different. They say "thank you." They give credit to the people who helped them. They remember the patrol that supported them, the parent who drove them, the leader who believed in them. And people walk away liking them even more.

That's what humility is. It isn't pretending you didn't do anything. It isn't refusing to be proud. It's remembering that almost nothing worth doing is done alone.

So when your name gets called, enjoy it. Smile. Feel good. Then look around the room and find the people who helped you get there. Tell them thank you.

That's when people will know you really deserved it.
