This week, Scouting in America has a birthday.

On February 8, 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was officially incorporated in Washington, D.C. That's (number of years) years ago this week.

Think about what's happened since then. Generations of Scouts have pitched tents, hiked trails, earned ranks, and done millions of Good Turns. Some of them became astronauts, presidents, scientists, and teachers. Most of them just became good neighbors, good parents, and people their towns could count on. That's the real success story.

And here's the thing about a birthday like this one. It isn't really about 1910. It's about the fact that Scouting is still here, still working, still growing, because every year a new group of kids decides to join and a new group of adults decides to help.

You're part of that story now. A hundred years from now, some Scout will sit at a meeting like this one, celebrating another anniversary. They'll never know your name. But they'll be standing on what you helped build, the same way we're standing on what the Scouts of 1910 built.

So happy birthday, Scouting. Let's make this year one worth remembering.
