The Singing Scoutmaster: For The Want Of A Nail

For The Want Of A Nail

Category: Inspirational

Scouts, I want to share a short story with you tonight. It's an old proverb that carries a powerful lesson:

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe, the horse was lost.
For want of a horse, the rider was lost.
For want of a rider, the message was lost.
For want of a message, the battle was lost.
For want of a battle, the kingdom was lost.
All for the want of a nail.
This story teaches us how paying attention to details can have a big impact. Just like that missing nail could have saved the kingdom, noticing the small but important things in our daily lives — being prepared, double-checking our work, and doing our best — can make all the difference. Even the smallest overlooked detail can ripple outward in ways we may not see right away. So remember, every detail matters. Let's be the Scouts who make a difference by paying attention to the details, one step at a time.
