Before we get to the agenda tonight, I want to take one minute.

Everybody in this room has somewhere else they could be. A family at home. A pile of work. A couch and a ballgame. And yet here we are, on a weeknight, talking about campout schedules and popcorn sales and permission slips.

Why?

I'd guess most of us could name the moment. The quiet kid who finally spoke up at a campfire. The Scout who was terrified of the swim test and came out of the water grinning. The patrol that burned dinner, fixed it themselves, and was prouder of that meal than anything you could have cooked for them. The young person you watched grow up, one campout at a time, into someone you'd trust with almost anything.

That's why. Not the paperwork. Not the meetings. Them.

Some nights this work feels thankless. The forms pile up, the emails don't stop, and nobody notices the hours we put in. On those nights, hold onto that moment. Most of what we do happens behind the scenes so that, somewhere down the line, a young person gets to have a moment like that.

Thank you for being here. Now let's get to work, for them.
