First Woman in Space: No Trail, No Problem

In 1963, a 26-year-old woman named Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman ever to fly in space. She wasn't from a famous family. She didn't come from privilege. She was a textile worker and amateur skydiver in the Soviet Union-until someone gave her a chance to try.

She trained hard. She launched aboard Vostok 6. And for three days, she orbited the Earth alone-proving that women could take on the same challenges, risks, and achievements as men in the space race.

There was no trail to follow. So she made one.

Scouts are taught to blaze trails-not just through woods and mountains, but through history. When the path isn't there, we learn to make one. And like Valentina, we can do it with courage, skill, and a willingness to say: "Yes, I'll go."
