First to Raise a Hand

"Who can help set up chairs? Who wants to volunteer for the service project? Who will assist with this task?" These questions hang in the air for an awkward moment while everyone waits for someone else to volunteer.
Then one Scout raises their hand immediately. And suddenly, other hands go up too. That first volunteer broke the ice and made it socially acceptable for others to help. They demonstrated that helping isn't something to avoid - it's something to jump toward.
A Scout is helpful and eager to volunteer. When you're consistently the first to raise your hand, you accomplish two things: you ensure the work gets done, and you set a standard that encourages others. Leadership isn't just about titles - it's about being the person who steps up first when help is needed, showing others that service is an honor, not a burden.
