Category:Scout Oath

In the Scout Oath, we promise to do our "duty to God." This is one of the oldest parts of Scouting, and it means something personal to every Scout.

Scouts come from many different faiths and backgrounds. Some go to church, some go to a synagogue, a mosque, or a temple. What we all share is the idea that there is something bigger than ourselves, and that we should be grateful and reverent toward it.

Doing your duty to God doesn't mean you have to be perfect. It means taking time to be thankful for the good things in your life-your family, your friends, the beautiful world around you. It means saying a prayer, reflecting quietly, or simply being kind because your faith teaches you to care about others.

A Scout is reverent. That means showing respect for God and for the beliefs of others, even when they're different from your own. You don't have to understand every religion to respect someone's faith. Reverence is about how you treat people and how you live your life.

Your duty to God shows up in the way you treat others, in the gratitude you feel, and in the quiet moments when you reflect on what really matters. It's not just words you say-it's a way of living that starts in your heart.
