Bears, do you remember the story of The Jungle Book? Mowgli is a boy raised by a pack of wolves. But there's another important character in that story. A big, friendly bear named Baloo.

In the book, Baloo is Mowgli's teacher. He teaches Mowgli the Law of the Jungle: how to live in the forest, how to stay safe, how to talk to the other animals, and how to treat others with respect. Baloo is patient, wise, and a little bit funny, and Mowgli learns everything he needs from him.

That's a lot like being a Bear Cub Scout. This is a big year for learning. You'll spend more time outdoors. You'll learn new skills, maybe how to use tools safely, find your way around, and take care of yourself in the woods. You'll take on bigger challenges than you did as a Wolf.

And here's something else. Now that you're a Bear, there are younger Cub Scouts in the pack looking up to you. The Lions and Tigers are watching what you do. You can be a little bit like Baloo for them, showing them the way and being patient when they're learning.

So this year, be a good learner, and be a good teacher too. That's what bears do.
