You're on a bus or in a waiting room, and an elderly person enters. Every seat is taken except yours. Do you keep scrolling on your phone, or do you stand up and offer your seat?
Courtesy to elders isn't about thinking they're helpless - it's about honoring the years they've lived and the contributions they've made. When you hold a door for a senior citizen, carry their groceries, or offer your seat, you're saying, "I see you, I respect you, and I'm grateful for the world you've helped build."
A Scout is courteous, especially to those who deserve our respect. The older generation has walked paths we haven't traveled yet. They've faced challenges we can't imagine. Showing them courtesy isn't old-fashioned - it's timeless. And someday, when you're the elder, you'll remember the young people who treated you with dignity and respect.
