Courage is Not Absence of Fear

Notes:True bravery means doing what's right despite being afraid.

If you're never afraid, you're not brave - you're just not facing anything challenging. Bravery isn't the absence of fear. It's feeling the fear and choosing to act anyway because the action is important.

The Scout who's scared of heights but climbs the tower anyway - that's brave. The Scout who's nervous about speaking up but defends a friend anyway - that's brave. The Scout who's afraid of failing but tries a new skill anyway - that's brave.

A Scout is brave, and bravery means acknowledging your fear but not letting it control your choices. When you feel afraid and do the right thing anyway, you're not pretending to be fearless - you're being genuinely courageous. And that's far more impressive than never being afraid at all.
