Clean - A Clean Uniform

| Notes: | For any meeting, especially before a court of honor, a public event, a parade, or a uniform inspection. Be sensitive to families for whom uniforms are a financial stretch. The minute is about care, not cost, and many units keep a uniform closet of donated items. |
Let's talk about the uniform for a minute.
I'm not talking about how much it cost, or whether it's brand new. Plenty of great Scouts wear a hand-me-down shirt that's been through three older brothers and sisters. What I'm talking about is how you take care of it.
Your uniform says something about you before you ever open your mouth. When you walk into a court of honor, a parade, or a service project in a clean, neat uniform with your patches on straight, people notice. It says, "I take this seriously. I'm proud to be here."
And when you're in uniform out in public, people aren't just seeing you. They're seeing Scouting. That kid in a clean uniform holding the door open at the grocery store? People remember that. That's how folks decide what they think about Scouts.
Taking care of your uniform doesn't take much. Hang it up instead of balling it up in the corner. Wash it when it needs it. Sew your patches on straight. Tuck in your shirt. Check yourself before you head out the door.
Being clean isn't about looking fancy. It's about showing respect, for yourself, for the people around you, and for everything that uniform stands for.
Wear it like it matters. Because it does.
