Blue and Gold - What the Colors Mean

| Props: | Something blue and something gold to hold up, such as a neckerchief, a ribbon, or a table decoration (optional) |
| Notes: | For the Blue and Gold Banquet, Cub Scouting's birthday celebration, usually held in February around Scouting Anniversary Week. Speaks to Cub Scouts and their families. |
Tonight we're celebrating Scouting's birthday. Look around this room. Blue tablecloths, gold balloons, blue and gold everywhere. Have you ever wondered why those two colors?
Each one means something.
The blue stands for the sky above us, and for truth and loyalty. Being true means telling the truth even when it's hard. Being loyal means sticking with your friends, your family, and your den, even on the days when it's not easy.
The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness. It's the feeling of a sunny Saturday at a pack campout, a joke that makes your whole den laugh, a friend who's glad to see you.
Put them together, and you get a pretty good picture of a Cub Scout: someone you can count on, who makes the people around them a little happier.
Now look around one more time. Not at the decorations this time, but at the people. Your family, who drove you to every meeting. Your den leaders, who planned every activity. The Cub Scouts sitting next to you. They are the real blue and gold of this pack.
Happy birthday, Scouting. And thank you, all of you, for making this pack what it is.
