Thorns And Roses
Category: | Campfire Closings |
---|---|
Notes: | This is used to close a weekend campout or similar |
At the close of your campout, gather Scouts and leaders in a circle—everyone stands together as a unit. One by one, each person shares two things:
- Roses: Highlights or favorite moments from the campout.
- Thorns: Things that were less enjoyable or presented a challenge.
Passing can go around the circle in order, or you can toss a ball or token to choose the next speaker—use whichever method keeps it fun and friendly.
Guidelines for Sharing
- Thorns should be about things we can actually improve (no blaming the weather or things outside our control).
- Everyone must share at least one Rose.
- Thorns are optional—no need to force it.
- Be specific with Roses (it's great to recognize people or special activities).
- Be general with Thorns (never single out anyone).
Bonus Tip: End your Roses and Thorns with a Scout cheer or a favorite closing song. It keeps the spirit high and sends everyone home smiling!
