Meeting Opening #3 - Be Prepared for Any Old Thing
| Category: | Meeting Openings |
|---|---|
| Notes: | A short call-and-response opening built on the Scout Motto and the answer Baden-Powell is said to have given when asked what a Scout should be prepared for. Good before a meeting where the troop is planning an outing or learning a skill. The Senior Patrol Leader can run it with no preparation. Part of a series of short meeting openings and closings. |
SPL: 'Troop, attention. What is the Scout Motto?'
Troop: 'Be Prepared!'
SPL: 'Be prepared for what?'
(Let a few Scouts call out answers: a storm, a hike, a test, a first aid emergency.)SPL: 'There is an old story that someone once asked Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, that same question. Be prepared for what? And he is said to have answered: "Why, for any old thing."'
SPL: 'Tonight, let us get prepared for something. Troop, the Scout Motto.'
Troop: 'Be Prepared!'
SPL: 'Two.'
